At 11.30am on Wednesday 25th March we had a phone call from Mr Kirtley to tell us they had arrived safely, and were settling into their accommodation.  Further details to follow as we get them . . . .

9.45pm Wednesday evening - Mrs Samar contacted me to say that the children were having a great time, they were all really tired and had all gone to bed!   The staff will be following them shortly since they, too, are exhausted!

Thursday 26th March - 9.15am - Miss Bloxham left a message saying that the activities are really good and that the children's behaviour is outstanding, although they were a little noisy during the night!

11.30am - Mrs Tighe called to say that the children had all completed their 'muddy' tasks and were all showering, even though they all got caught in a hail storm.      After lunch they will be tackling the 'zip wire' and other groups will be 'fencing'.  Everybody is having a great time, eating lots of good food  and really enjoying themselves

10pm - Thursday evening - Mrs Samar called to say that they had all had another action packed day, ending with a fabulous disco which everyone enjoyed.  Apparently the children are loving it so much that they don't want to go home!

12 midday update - The coach will be leaving at 1.45pm this afternoon - they are expected to arrive back at school around 4.30ish.   3.30pm - they have just turned on to the M25 at Thorpe Park - traffic jams - expect to be back at 4.30ish still.

WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!

Hampton Court - March 2008

Year 4 visited Hampton Court recently - here are some of the pictures taken on the day

Year 6 - March 2008 - Activity Week

While some of the Year 6 children went to Surrey for a 3-day residential trip, the others took part in activities at Harrow Leisure Centre.  They had a go at trampolining, table tennis, badminton and football, accompanied by Mrs Guram and Miss Goundrey.  Some of the pictures are below.

Murder at the Manor

8th March 2008

Come along and watch the performance of Murder at the Manor, make a few notes (clues), have some fun and try to work out 'whodunnit'?  There will be no audience participation (apart from the obvious hisses, boos and heckling (if you feel so inclined!)) - but you can come dressed as characters if you feel like it.

Tickets are £4 per person or £10 including a fish and chip meal.  Bring your own drinks and sort out your own teams in advance.

We hope to see you there.

Post show Review - Murder at the Manor

A team of 'actors' performed a play, written and donated to the school by Chris McDermott, Headteacher, to a crowd of parents and friends.  Great fun was had by all and the Friends of Marlborough raised nearly £500 from the event.    It was a really good evening, and one we hope to do again!

Thank you to those of you who came and supported the event, to our actors and, of course, to Mr McDermott for donating the play to the school.

Whole School Photo

16th March 2008

For the first time ever, we decided to have a whole school photograph taken, to celebrate Marlborough's 40th Birthday.  It was no mean feat getting everyone organsed, but under the leadership of the main photographer, it went really smoothly.  Have a look at the pictures below to see how it was done!

Mothers' Day Cake and Presents Sale

29th February 2008

In return for bringing cakes, toiletries, soaps, small gifts etc, the children can wear their own clothes on Friday.

Items for sale cost between 50p and £5.

Thank you to everyone who made cakes, or bought them - we raised £700!  Have a look at the fun we had below!

Our Mothers' Day Cake Sale is always a huge success, and this year's was no exception.  The Friends of Marlborough raised over £700 with the generosity and support of our parents and children.   Thank you very much!

Neal Zetter Visit

Neal Zetter has been a regular visitor to the school over the last few years.  He never fails to have the school in stitches as he recites his latest poems.  Have a look at the pictures we took during his last visit.

The poem below is one of Neal's own!

Alan's Awesome Adjectives

My Mum says “ain’t he handsome?”
But there’s much more to Alan Hansen
Than his James Bond looks
And his sun-tanned face
He puts other soccer pundits in their place
Using adjectives
And superlatives
As well as he used the ball
In his halcyon Liverpool playing days

‘Cause on Match of the Day
You’ll hear him say
“Unbelievable”
“Incredible”
“Amazing goal”
“Diabolical”
“An absolutely terrible
Tackle from behind”
“Magnificent lob from the half-way line”
“His first touch was totally sublime”
“Fantastic”
“Terrific”
“Dreadful”
“Abysmal”
There’s not a word wasted
No superfluous syllable
Or any hint of drivel
When he waxes lyrical
About Rooney’s latest dribble
“Awesome”

You’re all waylaid
In the shade
Lineker
Davies
Pearce
Motson
And Lawrenson
Be afraid
When you’re up against Hansen

So when Alan’s on TV
Turn up the volume on your telly
To hear the Scot
Who knows a lot
More adjectives
Than your average
English dictionary

Year 5 Victorian Assembly

7th February 2008

Year 5 presented an assembly to parents recently in which they reminded us of schooling during the Victorian times.

The children all performed wonderfully, so well done to them!

We took part in "Sing Sing Sing" at Stag Lane First School, and had a great time.  Have a look at our pictures.  Thank you Ms Hunter for working hard with us and making us enjoy music lessons so much.

Entertainer

July 20th 2007

Whilst the Middle School children enjoyed their end of term disco, Peter Pinner, a local entertainer (and a former pupil of Mrs Ross!), entertained the First School children with a hilarious show that involved magic tricks, balloon making, wilting flowers and much, much more.

March 2007 - Book Character Competition

As part of Book Week, and World Book Day, our children dressed up as their favourite book characters.  Here are some of the photos.  Geraldine Higgins, who was the school's attached adviser from the Council, judged our entries and chose the following winners:

Middle School - Marcus

First School - Noah

June 15th 2007 - Under One Sky Festival

In 2007 the children from Year 3 took part in the Under One Sky Festival at Kodak Sports Ground.

They worked with a professional sculptor to make Roald Dahl's bird which they all helped to carry around the showground.

Have a look at some of our pictures, and a photo of the display that was in one of our corridors.
